Organic Compound Reduction
Organic contaminents such as hydrogen sulfide can cause water to have a foul odor or taste. Other organic contaminents such as gasoline or volatile organic compounds can have serious adverse health effects. The two most common methods of removing organic compounds are adsorption using activated carbon and reduction of organic compounds using a special wavelength of ultraviolet radiation. Only adsorption of organics using activated carbon is a practical residential application as a UV unit to reduce organics is costly.
Removal of organic compounds using carbon filtration is similar to reducing odors and bad tastes using carbon filtration.
